The Winnipeg Jets wrapped up the second half of their back-to-back on Saturday night in Nashville, looking to bounce back after being thumped 5-1 by the Carolina Hurricanes, a loss that extended their skid to four games. This time, they responded. Winnipeg snapped the streak with a sharp 5-2 win over the Predators. Gabriel Vilardi opened the scoring, Nino Niederreiter added a pair of goals, Cole Perfetti ended his drought, Kyle Connor tallied his 12th, and Eric Comrie stopped 20 shots.
Better start
In Carolina, the Jets started flat, going nearly eight minutes without a shot while being outshot 6-0. Saturday was a different story. Just 47 seconds in, Mark Scheifele’s initial chance was turned aside by Justus Annunen, but Vilardi cleaned up the rebound for his 11th of the season, finally snapping Winnipeg’s four-game streak of allowing the first goal.
Secondary scoring comes alive
With under a minute remaining in the opening frame, Luke Schenn hit Nino Niederreiter with a stretch pass through the neutral zone. Niederreiter carried the puck into the Predators’ zone and beat Annunen blocker side to make it 2-0.

The goal also ended a wild drought: 311 minutes and 31 seconds between goals from a Jets forward not on the top line. The previous one? Adam Lowry back on Nov. 18 against Columbus. Crazy.
“Obviously feels really good getting a goal like that,” said Niederreiter. “Goals haven’t been coming easy, so it’s a great feeling when one of those goes in.”
Perfetti ends his slump
Perfetti entered the night without a goal since Nov. 15. That changed in the second period. He slipped into the slot and hammered home a one-timer from Vladislav Namestnikov, giving Winnipeg a 3-0 lead with his second of the year.

Winnipeg continues its road trip Monday in Buffalo, the first of two matchups with the Sabres in a five-day span. Puck drop is set for 6:30 p.m. CST on Amazon Prime.
