The Winnipeg Jets opened their longest road trip of the season Tuesday night in Los Angeles, hoping to extend their three-game winning streak, but couldn’t solve Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper, falling 3-0. Adrian Kempe, Kevin Fiala, and Drew Doughty scored for L.A., while Kuemper stopped all 23 shots he faced. Connor Hellebuyck made 24 saves in net for Winnipeg.
Cap returns
Jets captain Adam Lowry returned to the lineup after missing the first 12 games of the 2025-26 campaign while recovering from offseason hip surgery in May. Lowry centered his usual linemate Nino Niederreiter and a new face in former King Tanner Pearson.
According to NHL Stats, Lowry logged 14:08 of ice time, registered one shot, finished at -1, and led the team with four hits.
Power play runs dry
Winnipeg had five power play opportunities but failed to convert on any of them, managing just six shots on those man advantages. The top unit struggled to get set up as the Kings’ aggressive penalty kill forced turnovers and disrupted passing lanes, making zone entries difficult. Even when the Jets created a rare scoring chance, Kuemper had a clear view of the puck every time.
Tough luck for Vilardi
The Jets thought they had scored on their first shot of the game, but the referees ruled that Gabriel Vilardi interfered with Kuemper. Winnipeg challenged the call, but the call on the ice was upheld.
“I wasn’t pushed, it was just a little nudge. I don’t know, it’s tough, it’s a tough call for them,” said Vilardi. “I don’t want to step on their toes or anything. It’s tough for both sides. I think it’s a goal, obviously, but what are you gonna do.”
Winnipeg will continue their six-game road trip on Friday in San Jose against the Sharks. Puck drop is at 9:00 p.m. CST on TSN3.
