As the 2024 NHL off-season carries on into summer, it’s time to start looking ahead to what the 2024-25 season will have in store for the Winnipeg Jets. Aside from the uncertainties around some moves the Jets may or may not make this off-season, one thing that is guaranteed to happen next season are some players reaching career milestones.
Of course, when you talk about milestones for Jets players, you need to clarify which timeframe you are talking about. There’s the original Jets, the Atlanta Thrashers, and now the modern day Jets, but these records or milestones that I’m looking at begin from the Thrashers era onwards. As I mentioned, several Jets players will be hitting some pretty significant milestones in the 2024-25 season, and I feel like it’s worth noting them now so that you are prepared for the games where they could happen.
Beginning with assistant captain, and one of the longest serving Jets, Mark Scheifele. The 31-year old is 99.9% guaranteed to reach 2 significant milestones early next season. The 1st one is 800 games played. Currently Scheifele sits at 797 NHL games played, and this total is of course more special because they have all been played with the Jets organization. Once Scheifele achieves 800 games played, he’ll be only 97 games played behind the current Thrashers/Jets leader Blake Wheeler.
The 2nd milestone which Scheifele will be guaranteed to reach early in the 2024-25 season is 300 career goals. Scheifele is usually known a little more for his playmaking abilities, currently at 420 assists, but he’s also now just 3 goals away from reaching the 300 mark. Considering there have only been just over 200 players in NHL history to ever reach 300 goals, this is quite the achievement to look forward to for Scheifele.
The next Jets player who will be further etching his name in Jets all-time record books next season is Connor Hellebuyck. The 2023-24 Vezina trophy winner already has almost all of the Jets prominent goalie records at this point, so now he’s looking to reach new significant all-time record marks. Hellebuyck currently has 275 wins, so at some point midway through the season he should be able to reach 300 wins. That number would place Hellebuyck in the top-50 all time for wins by a goalie, a feat which can’t be understated in terms of how impressive that is in today’s league.
A 3rd player who remains a part of the Jets core is their goal scoring specialist, Kyle Connor. Connor is still just 27 years old, but he’s already making his way up several Jets all-time scoring lists. Early in the 2024-25 season, with Connor’s 7th goal of the season, he’ll reach 250 goals in his career. Probably around the same time in the season, Connor should be able to reach 500 career points. Connor is just 15 points away from reaching that special total, one which starts giving players extra praise as they continue their successful careers.
There are a few other milestones to watch for throughout the Jets players in the 2024-25 season. Some of which are career totals that span across multiple teams, while others are “smaller” milestones, which likely means the player is still in their early stages of their career. One of these milestones comes from a fairly new member of the Jets, Nino Niederreiter. Entering his 2nd full season with the Jets, Niederreiter will reach 900 NHL games played after his 13th appearance. The 31-year old has played for the New York Islanders, Minnesota Wild, Carolina Hurricanes and Nashville Predators before settling in over the last year and a half with the Jets.
I’m probably going to end up forgetting a few of the Jets milestones that will occur in the 2024-25 season, but here’s a few more that I can list off which are bound to happen. Vladislav Namestnikov is only 2 points away from 300 career points (across 8 teams in total), while Neal Pionk is 17 assists away from 200 career assists. A final guaranteed milestone that will happen for the Jets in the 2024-25 season is Gabriel Vilardi playing in his 200th career game. Currently at 199 NHL appearances, Vilardi will hit the 200 mark on game #1 of what he hopes is a big 2nd full season with the Jets.
So now you know, there’s most of the milestones that appear to be achievable for these Jets players in the 2o24-25 season. Of course, I’m sure I missed a few, and there are probably some that seem out of reach which may end up happening, but these are the ones that I think you should keep an eye out on for sure. I’ve found that milestones are great moments throughout a team’s season, and the Jets will have some pretty important ones that will occur in the upcoming season.
