The @Winnipeg Jets and D @Dustin Byfuglien are working towards the termination of his contract, TSN’s Frank Seravalli reported Monday morning.
Seravalli reported that the termination would be mutual between the two parties and could be completed over the next several days.
The move would free up $7.6-million in cap space for the Jets as the NHL trade deadline approaches and would end his suspension and close the grievance Byfuglien filed in November.
Seravalli reported that the defenceman has not resumed skating since undergoing ankle surgery in last October, but it is believed he has been rehabbing with the Jets since mid-December.
Should the termination happen, Byfuglien, 34, would become an unrestricted free agent and would be free to sign with any NHL club.
