The Winnipeg Jets carried Tuesday’s offensive outburst against the New York Islanders into St. Paul against the Minnesota Wild as they dominated them 6-2 at Grand Casino Arena.
Jonathan Toews extended his goal streak to four games as he opened the scoring at 14:08 on the power play. Mark Scheifele’s one-timer was stopped by Jesper Wallstedt, and Toews knocked in the rebound for his 900th NHL point.
The Jets would go into the first intermission in style as they netted two goals in the last 11 seconds, yes, the last 11 seconds, of the period. Dylan DeMelo’s point shot was kicked out to Tanner Pearson in front, and his initial shot was stopped by Wallstedt, but he capitalized on his own rebound to put the Jets ahead 2-0 with his seventh of the year at 19:49. Then, with 1.6 seconds on the clock, Toews won a draw back to Scheifele, who set up Josh Morrissey for a one-timer, and he blasted his ninth of the year past the Minnesota netminder in the dying seconds.

Danila Yurov got the Wild on the board 4:53 into the second period with his seventh of the season, but then at 9:33, Logan Stanley stepped into a clapper near the left faceoff dot right after the Jets’ power play expired and beat Wallstedt post and in for his eighth of the year, restoring Winnipeg’s three-goal lead.

Gabriel Vilardi and Scheifele would dig Minnesota’s grave even deeper as Vilardi found the back of the net for his 19th on the power play at 12:51 when he tapped home a puck that came out the side of the net off the end boards. Then, at 17:12, Scheifele added his 23rd when Alex Iafallo drove around the net and spotted Scheifele on the right faceoff dot, setting him up for a quick wrist shot that found its way bar and in to make the blowout 6-1.
Minnesota tried to get back on the scoresheet in the third, managing to get one past Connor Hellebuyck with Marcus Johansson’s 13th, but it didn’t matter as the Jets picked up their fourth consecutive win. They improved to 19-22-5, while Hellebuyck made 32 stops.
The Jets now make a quick stop at home Saturday for a Hockey Night in Canada matchup with the Toronto Maple Leafs at Canada Life Centre. Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m. CST on Sportsnet.
