Hustle-chuck will dress in the polar-night blue once again!
The Winnipeg Jets have announced the re-signing of depth forward Matt Halischuk to a one-year, two-way contract worth $750 thousand in the NHL.
Halischuk, 27, will fill in the role of depth forward for the Jets once again. His role has slowly receeded as a Jet but he is still a capable depth forward and could play across the hall, in the AHL for the Manitoba Moose.
The underlying numbers have not smiled well on Matt Halischuk. His two-way numbers tend to be very low, although he tends to score quite well. Our look at his performance last year suggested that there could be some bounce-back in Halischuk’s scoring rates, although it would be minimal with his likely limited role.
The Jets have an interesting situation where their AHL team plays across the hall. This allows the team to take advantage of certain CBA loopholes concerning the Salary Cap. With a two-way contract, Halischuk could be one of the players the Jets exploit this market advantage for themselves.
