The Winnipeg Jets are showing signs of regaining their value as a home favourite as they take on an opponent which is struggling in interconference road games.
The Jets are a -135 home favourite on the NHL odds while the New York Rangers are a +115 away underdog with a 6.5-goal total for Tuesday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Although the Jets have struggled at home for much of the season, they are 4-1 in their last five home games as a -125 to -145 favourite, with the total finishing UNDER five of the last six times that the closing moneyline has been in that range at sports betting sites. The Rangers are 3-15 in their last 18 road games against the Western Conference.

Rangers at Jets | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Rangers are 27-23-4 overall, including a 3-7 record in their last 10 games as an underdog. New York ranks 30th, or second-last in the NHL, in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (46.4 percent), but has exceptional individual talent up front with the likes of left wing Artemi Panarin and center Mika Zibanejad. The Rangers are eighth in goals scored (3.28) and are 22nd in goals against (3.17). They have the league’s sixth-best power play (23.4 percent) and are 22nd in penalty killing (78.1).
New York is giving the goaltending start to rookie Igor Shesterkin, who has a 5-1-0 record with a 2.34 goals-against average and .933 save percentage.
The Jets are 29-23-5 and will be playing their third game in four nights after defeating the Ottawa Senators and Chicago Blackhawks by identical 5-2 scores on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Left wing Patrik Laine is on a hot streak with nine goals in his last nine games for the Jets, who are 24th in the NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (48.2 percent). The Jets are 18th in goals scored (2.98 per game) and 12th in goals against (3.00). On special teams, the power play is ranked 14th (19.8 percent) but the penalty killing unit is ranked 26th (75.3).
With two days off until their next game, it’s likely the Jets will give the goaltending start to Connor Hellebuyck, who has a 24-16-5 record with a 2.67 goals-against average and .920 save percentage. Hellebuyck, who last played Sunday, has a 2.94 GAA and .911 save percentage when he is starting with one day of rest.
The Jets host the San Jose Sharks on Friday and the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday to conclude their five-game homestand.
