The NHL Preseason record does not matter, it would be nice for the Winnipeg Jets to collect their first win here at home tonight in a rematch against the Edmonton Oilers.
The Jets currently hold a 0-1-1 record through two preseason games so far. They would drop the first contest against the Minnesota Wild 5-2, then would play the very next day in Edmonton, where they would fall 3-2 in overtime.
Yesterday, the Jets announced that they had made cuts for the first time during this year’s training camp, reducing to 23 forwards, 13 defensemen, and 5 goalies. Now with the reduced number of players on the roster, we will likely be seeing more of the main group of players hitting the ice tonight and in the future of this year’s preseason.
According to Scott Arniel, we should be seeing some new power play and penalty kill configurations tonight. Yesterday, at training camp, Nikolaj Ehlers was working on the PP1 with Scheifele, Morrissey, Connor and Vilardi. So definitely still a familiar look from last year, but the addition of Ehlers will hopefully get the power play rolling early on in the season and continue to be consistent as the season progresses.
It was confirmed that the starting goalie would be Kaapo Kähkönen. Kähkönen started the game against Minnesota where he stopped 28 of 23 shots for a .821 SV%. The backup tonight will be Domenic Divincentiis, who has not dressed for a preseason game yet. We will see if they play half-and-half tonight, but it will probably just be Kähkönen playing the whole game, since he’s in the midst of battling for a backup position with Eric Comrie.
Projected Lines:
Connor – Scheifele – Vilardi
Namestnikov – Lambert – Ehlers
Niederreiter – Lowry – Anderson Dolan
Gustafsson – Kupari – Ford
Morrissey – DeMelo
Samberg – Pionk
Stanley – Miller
Lundmark – Salomonsson
Kähkönen
DiVincentiis
Puck drop tonight is at 7:00 pm CDT and you can watch the game on TSN3.
