The Stanley Cup Playoffs are set to get underway, and the Winnipeg Jets are ready to open their first-round series against the St. Louis Blues tonight at Canada Life Centre.
The Jets closed out the regular season with a franchise-best 116 points, riding into the playoffs with momentum and confidence. Known for their defensive discipline and elite goaltending, Winnipeg allowed the fewest goals in the NHL this season. Connor Hellebuyck has been the team’s backbone all year and enters the postseason as a top contender for both the Vezina and Hart Trophies.
Offensively, the Jets will lean on the firepower of Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, and Nikolaj Ehlers, while their depth forwards—such as Nino Niederreiter, Adam Lowry, and Morgan Barron—will be counted on to wear down St. Louis with their physicality and forecheck.
The Blues enter the series as the Western Conference’s second wild card team, finishing the season strong to secure a playoff berth. Jordan Binnington, who backstopped the Blues to a Stanley Cup in 2019, is expected to get the nod in goal. St. Louis brings plenty of playoff experience and physicality, led by Robert Thomas, Pavel Buchnevich, and Brayden Schenn.
Special teams will be a major storyline in this series. Winnipeg’s power play has shown flashes of brilliance but will need to be consistent, while the penalty kill has remained among the best in the league. St. Louis also features a dangerous top unit that can swing momentum quickly.
With the whiteout in full force and home-ice advantage on their side, the Jets will aim to set the tone early in game one and take control of the series. Buckle up, Winnipeg—the quest for Lord Stanley begins now.
