The Winnipeg Jets are set to play their first game at Canada Life Centre since Feb. 7th, as they meet the San Jose Sharks tonight to wrap up the season series.
On Monday night in St. Louis, the Jets were without their superstar goaltender Connor Hellebuyck and top-pairing defenseman Josh Morrissey. Despite that, they managed to salvage a 4-3 win in a shootout. Kyle Connor netted the shootout winner, while Eric Comrie made 21 saves, stopping all three St. Louis shooters in the shootout to secure the Jets’ franchise-record 9th straight win.
The struggling San Jose Sharks played in Calgary last night, with the Flames coming out on top in a tight 3-2 regulation win. This loss marks the Sharks’ fifth straight defeat (0-4-1). San Jose is currently in a tough spot, holding a dismal 1-8-1 record in their past 10 games and are on track to become the first team to surpass 40 regulation losses this season.
These two teams have faced off twice this season, with each game ending in a Jets win. On Oct. 18th, the Jets crushed the Sharks 8-3 at home, and on Dec. 17th in San Jose, Adam Lowry scored the game-winning goal with just over a minute remaining in regulation for a 4-3 victory.
With Hellebuyck returning from the 4 Nations Face-Off, he is expected to start tonight, as Comrie played on Saturday. Hellebuyck has been stellar this season, with a .925 SV%, a league-leading 2.07 GAA, and 6 shutouts through 43 games.
Vitek Vanecek will start for San Jose, as Alexandar Georgiev played last night. Vanecek’s numbers have been subpar this season, with only three wins in 16 games, a .878 SV%, and a 4.01 GAA.
