The final month of the NHL regular season didn’t start the way the Winnipeg Jets wanted, as they fell 4-1 to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. Now, they look to bounce back in Vegas as they take on the Golden Knights for the final time this regular season at T-Mobile Arena.
Winnipeg didn’t necessarily play a bad game, but costly mistakes and missed opportunities were their downfall. Cole Perfetti scored the Jets’ lone goal—his 17th of the season—bringing them within one in the second period. However, Connor Hellebuyck faced just 19 shots, stopping 16 for a .842 save percentage. With the loss, Winnipeg’s record dropped to 51-20-4, and they’ll need a much sharper defensive effort against an offensively dangerous Vegas team.
“We turned the puck over three times, and it ended up in the back of our net,” head coach Scott Arniel said after the game.
Momentum was on Winnipeg’s side late in the second period after Perfetti’s goal, but a costly neutral-zone turnover by Logan Stanley led to a two-on-one and a goal against—something the Jets simply can’t afford.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Stars sit just four points back of Winnipeg with a game in hand. The two teams still have one more matchup on April 10 in Dallas, making every point crucial. If the Jets continue to make mistakes like they did against L.A., the Stars could very well snatch the Central Division title.
Adding to the challenge, Winnipeg will try to snap a nine-game losing streak against the Golden Knights, dating back to Game 1 of the 2022-23 playoffs. If there’s ever a time to finally win a regular-season game against Vegas, it’s tonight.
