The Winnipeg Jets had the door slammed right in their face on Tuesday night. After having their three-game winning streak snapped by the Canucks, the Jets look to bounce back and head home on a winning note against the Edmonton Oilers.
If Tuesday’s game was a playoff preview, the Canucks are heading toward the postseason with sky-high confidence. Vancouver dominated Winnipeg, winning puck battles and playing a more physical game. They made Connor Hellebuyck look like an AHL backup, scoring five goals on 21 shots before adding an empty netter to seal a 6-2 victory.
A blowout like that every couple of months isn’t the worst thing — it can serve as a wake-up call and a test of resilience.
“We certainly made some early mistakes, gave up a lot more rush opportunities than we ever have, I think, in a game,” Jets head coach Scott Arniel said. “And they capitalized.”
The Jets have a chance to respond quickly, and they’ll need to do so against a surging Edmonton team that just obliterated the Utah Hockey Club 7-1 on Tuesday night. The Oilers’ top six combined for six points in that contest, and they’ll be looking to carry that momentum into tonight’s game.
Tonight’s matchup will be a good test of character for the Jets. With the playoffs looming, they need to prove they can shake off a tough loss and return to their winning ways. Expect a fast-paced, high-intensity matchup as these two Western Conference offensive powerhouses go head-to-head.
