Playoff Push #69: Winnipeg Jets wrap up road trip in Tampa Bay

Mar 14, 2015, 14:05 EDTUpdated: Invalid DateTime
After back-to-back losses on the road, the Winnipeg Jets are on the outside of the playoff picture in the Western Conference heading in action Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Jets (33-23-12, 78 points), who wrap up a four-game road trip against the Lightning, are one point behind the Los Angeles Kings for the final wild-card spot with just 13 games remaining in the season.
To make matters worse, the Jets could be without another key defenceman after Tyler Myers left Thursday night’s loss against the Florida Panthers. Myers awkwardly crashed into the boards, suffering an upper-body injury.
When asked if Myers would be ready to play against the Bolts, head coach told the Winnipeg Sun: “I don’t know the answer to that. I won’t have an update for you until tomorrow.”

Andrew Ladd remains the team leader in points while Bryan Little, who is still sidelined with an upper-body injury, tops the Jets with 24 goals.
The Jets did receive some good news on the injury front as Matt Halischuk is close to making a return from a fractured foot.
Michael Frolik will take a career-best eight game point streak (five goals, three assists) into the game against the Lightning.

Tyler Myers was a game-time decision. The Jets called up blue-liner Keaton Ellerby from the St. John’s IceCaps on Friday.
With Myers out, Paul Postma draws in after being a healthy scratch for over 20 games.

Michael Hutchinson had another rough outing against the Panthers, and it looks like Pavelec will be getting the start today.
Tampa Bay
Tyler Johnson leads the Lightning (42-20-7) with 65 points this season. Johnson just saw his seven-game point streak come to an end Thursday against the Bostons Bruins.
The Lightning are tied for the Atlantic Division lead with the Montreal Canadiens at 91 points apiece.

Steven Stamkos leads the Lightning in goals this season with 37.
The former 60-goal scorer has 42 points in 29 career games against the Jets.

There were rumours that Matt Carle could come back from injury today, but early morning skate makes it appear that the Lightning will keep their recent defensive core from last few games the same.

Ben Bishop is expected to get the call in net for the Lightning on Saturday night.
Bishop owns a 33-11-4 record with a 2.33 goals-against average.
Predictions
Game Day Predictions: The Jets will move back into the playoff picture with a victory tonight. Jets 4 Lightning 2.
Obvious Predictions: Jacob Trouba logged 29:45 of ice time against the Panthers. If Myers doesn’t play, expect Trouba to get a similar workload.
Not So Obvious Predictions: Jiri Tlusty will score his first goal for the Jets since being acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes before the trade deadline.
