The Winnipeg Jets announced this morning that the team has recalled defenceman Elias Salomonsson from the Manitoba Moose, with Neal Pionk listed as day-to-day. Despite the injury, Pionk will still travel with the Jets on their upcoming five-game road trip.
Pionk played just over two minutes in Sunday’s matchup against the Minnesota Wild before leaving with what appeared to be a leg or groin issue. He did not return, and Jets PR later confirmed it as a lower-body injury. Pionk skated on his own today and looked to be moving well, but he’ll remain day-to-day as the team monitors how he feels ahead of tomorrow’s game in Washington.
With the Jets on the road for the next ten days, reinforcements were necessary. Winnipeg opted to call up Salomonsson from the Moose, and the 21-year-old is expected to make his NHL debut tomorrow against the Capitals.
At today’s practice, the Swedish defender skated alongside Dylan Samberg on the second pairing. Logan Stanley and Colin Miller formed the third pairing, while Luke Schenn slotted in as the extra defenceman.

Pionk, 30, has suited up for 21 games this season, posting one goal and four assists for five points.
Salomonsson has appeared in 17 contests with the Moose this year. Though still searching for his first AHL goal of the season, he’s chipped in six assists.
You can also expect goaltender Thomas Milic, currently backing up Eric Comrie, to make his NHL debut at some point during this road trip. With the Jets scheduled for a back-to-back in Carolina on Friday and Nashville on Saturday, it’s likely Milic will get his first NHL start against the Predators.
