3 months from tonight the Winnipeg Jets will be getting their 2024-25 regular season started. While the wait may seem like it’s a long ways away, the hockey season will be back before you know it. 1 week ago today, the full 2024-25 NHL regular season schedule was released. With a lack of Jets announcements (in terms of signings or trades) over the last day or two, I decided to take a good look at the Jets 2024-25 regular season schedule.
Every season, NHL fans begin circling dates where their favourite team is in action for a “must-watch” game. I took a long look at the Jets full 2024-25 regular season, and made note of some of the games that will almost surely be exciting or notable in some way throughout the season. Each of these games are special for different reasons, and keeping track of them before they happen can give you some benchmarks in what sometimes can feel like a long season. Here’s some notable games from the Jets 2024-25 regular season schedule, with some thoughts on what makes them significant.
I made a graphic for Jets Nation’s Instagram account that summarizes the exact games I’m about to mention. The 1st notable game in the Jets 2024-25 regular season is of course their 1st game of the season. October 9th, 2024 the Jets will take on the Edmonton Oilers in Edmonton at 9 PM Central Time. It’s safe to say that it’s going to be a difficult 1st game for the Jets, especially since it’s going to be the home opener for the defending Western Conference champions in Edmonton.
2 days later, a game I somehow forgot to include on the above mentioned graphic, is the Jets 2024 home opener. October 11th, 2024 at 7 PM Central Time the Jets will battle the Chicago Blackhawks at Canada Life Centre. This game should provide a decent chance for the Jets to get their 1st home win of the season, against a slightly improved Blackhawks team. I’m going to call it early, this game will be the Jets 1st win of the season, behind what should be an electric crowd in Winnipeg.
The next game that promises to bring some excitement for Jets fans is on October 18th against the San Jose Sharks. This night will be the 1st opportunity for Jets fans to see the 2024 #1 overall pick Macklin Celebrini in action. Every year, tickets around the league to see the #1 overall pick are in high-demand, and with Celebrini recently signing his entry-level contract, it almost guarantees that he’ll be on the ice in Winnipeg for the Jets 4th game of the season.
Fast forward to November 5th, when the Jets will be hosting the Utah Hockey Club for the 1st time ever. Yes, it’s basically just the re-located Arizona Coyotes, but it’s still the “newest” franchise in the NHL, who will be given a team name next season. 11 days later, on November 16th, the Jets will be on the road to go against the now defending champions, the Florida Panthers. That 1st game of the year against the defending champions always seems to have an extra buzz around it, and if the Jets can win that night they’ll get some temporary bragging rights (for whatever that’s worth).
After hosting the Panthers on November 19th, the Jets will be starting their season-long 6 game road trip in Pittsburgh against the Penguins on November 22nd. The road trip looks to be a challenging stretch for the Jets, as it begins with the Penguins, the newly improved Nashville Predators and Central division rivals Minnesota Wild. The Jets then go out West to play the L.A Kings, the Vegas Golden Knights, and finally the Dallas Stars on December 1st.
Moving into the 2025 part of the Jets regular season schedule now, beginning with a game on January 2nd at home against the Anaheim Ducks. This game is notable because it’s the 1st game of a season-long 8(!) game homestand in Winnipeg. Looking at these 8 games, there appears to be a mix of winnable games and a few tough opponents. This part of the schedule will be an important time for the Jets to use their home ice advantage to its full potential.
After the mid-February break for the new 4 nations tournament, the Jets appear to have a pretty balanced schedule for the rest of the regular season. The final game that will be circled on many Jets fans calendars is game #82, the final game of the regular season, at home against the Anaheim Ducks on April 16th. Hopefully the Jets will have secured a playoff position by this point, which would give the Jets an opportunity to showcase some other players on the season finale. It’s an added bonus to have your final regular season game at home too, as it just gives fans the ability to give the team a final send off, before hopefully the beginning of the playoffs.
That’s all the notable games that I could think of on my 1st good look at the Jets 2024-25 regular season schedule. I’m sure I missed at least a few other games with headlines throughout the season, but these were just ones that I think will be games to look forward to. It’s only 93 days now until the Jets regular season begins. Until then, Jets fans will be patiently waiting, while continuing to keep track of what moves the Jets make this off-season to prepare for next year.
