In a few weeks, players with KHL free agents will be able to freely sign with NHL clubs, TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reported.
The KHL officially shut down their season this past week, and according to LeBrun, the NHL has issued instructions to teams that contracts are only to be signed for the start of the 2020-21 season with the current season being suspended. Contracts are eligible to be signed on May 1st.
The NHL is continuing to examine options for resuming the 2019-20 season which includes them looking into having playoff hockey in… August?
It’s a weird proposition, to say the least and seems to be going against what Bill Daly had earlier suggested in that the league doesn’t want to 2020-21 season impacted if it doesn’t have to be.
