The Winnipeg Jets’ franchise-record 11-game win streak came to an end with a 2-1 regulation loss to the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena on Thursday evening. Neal Pionk scored the Jets’ lone goal, his ninth of the season. Winnipeg’s record dropped to 42-15-3, and the team went 0-for-4 on the power play, extending their streak to 0-for-14 in the last five games. Eric Comrie made 28 saves but suffered his first loss in his last four starts.

Power Play Running Dry

The Jets’ power play, which has been a major talking point this season, has struggled since returning from the 4 Nations break. They’ve gone 0-for-14 over the past five games. Despite winning their previous four games without scoring a power play goal (0-for-10), the Jets couldn’t capitalize against Nashville. With the team trailing 2-1 in the second period, Colton Sissons and Nick Blankenburg took penalties just six seconds apart, giving the Jets a 5-on-3 for 1:54. However, they only generated two shots during the advantage and just four total shots on their four power plays.

Comrie Stays Solid

One positive takeaway was Eric Comrie’s solid performance in goal. Despite the loss, he kept the Jets within striking distance, making several key saves, including a huge toe save on Filip Forsberg during a Nashville power play in the third period.
Comrie came into the game having won his previous three starts and now holds a 6-8-1 record with a .911 SV% and a 2.56 GAA.

Pionk Lights the Lamp

Neal Pionk scored his ninth goal of the season on Thursday, bringing him just one goal shy of tying his career-high of 10 goals set during the 2022-23 season. Pionk now has 37 points on the year, just nine shy of setting a career high, with 22 games remaining in the season
