As game time for game 5 approaches, I thought I would bring you 1 more word on the Jets before the action begins. I talked about various things that the Jets need to do in game 5 and I previewed game 5 for you. But the question that still needs answering before game 5 begins is this: what&#8217;s the most important thing out of every single thing that I&#8217;ve mentioned recently that the Jets need to do in order to be victorious in game 5?</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a tough question to answer, and you may ask yourself if there even is one thing that is more important than the rest? This may be true, but to simplify all of the different tactics in the Jets gameplan it&#8217;s best to focus on one and only thing. What is that one thing you ask? Scoring some more goals.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve discussed earlier in the Jets 1st round series about how ever since game 1 they&#8217;ve not been able to find their defensive identity from the regular season. Why suddenly then have I decided to say that scoring more is the most important thing that the Jets can do tonight? When it comes down to it, I think it&#8217;s easier to fix a broken offense than it is to fix a broken defense.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s really only so much you can do on defense to improve how you play against the other team&#8217;s offense. You probably have seen by now just how dynamic of an offense the Avalanche have with players such as Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Cale Makar to name a few. You also know that Connor Hellebuyck has been struggling in net this series, so why not focus on giving him some support on the scoresheet?</p>
<p>Cole Perfetti makes his playoff debut tonight and Colin Miller makes his Jets playoff debut, having 40 prior games of playoff experience. These 2 players can help the team score more goals. The almost 20 goal scoring Perfetti may have been left off the initial playoff roster due to not having any experience in the playoffs, but it&#8217;s clear that his scoring touch can only be beneficial now for his team.</p>
<p>Rick Bowness talked to the media earlier today about the team needing to score more goals and why Perfetti and Miller were added to the lineup, and he said</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;We need to score some goals, so that&#8217;s why they&#8217;re going in. Collin&#8217;s got a great shot on the point; we&#8217;re hoping to get something from them. And we know Cole &#8212; it&#8217;s time to give him a good look&#8221;.</p></blockquote>
<p>Having Cole Perfetti on the 2nd line with Sean Monahan and Kyle Connor is a great chance for Perfetti to make an immediate presence in the lineup. Miller joins Nate Schmidt on the 3rd pairing, and it&#8217;s clear that Miller will be tasked with getting some shots on goal whenever possible.</p>
<p>The only aspect to scoring goals which is not dependent on the Jets themselves is of course the Avalanche goaltending. Alexandar Georgiev had a rough game 1 but has since bounced back with 3 solid outings in the 3 Avalanche wins. There&#8217;s not a magic number when it comes to how many shots you need to get to have a good chance to win a playoff game (as you may have seen in some of the other games around the league), but it really comes down to getting good high quality scoring chances and finishing them off as efficiently as possible.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s as simple as that. The Jets need to find a way to score more goals tonight if they want to win game 5. Just like shots on goal, there isn&#8217;t a magic number as to how many they need, but a generally good amount of goals to win a game is 4. Getting 4 goals would give the Jets a solid chance to win the game, and the more goals, the better. However many goals they score tonight, I just wanted to say Go Jets Go a final time before game 5.</p>
