The Manitoba Moose wrapped up a busy week with four games before closing out their six-game homestand and preparing to head back on the road.
Tuesday, Nov. 25 – Belleville 5, Manitoba 2
The Moose entered Tuesday’s matchup riding a six-game win streak, but Belleville ended that run with a 5-2 victory.
The Senators struck three times in the opening frame, with Jamieson Rees opening the scoring before Arthur Kaliyev and Oskar Pettersson extended the lead. Manitoba attempted to claw back as Parker Ford netted his first of the season in the second period, and Kale Clague pulled the Moose within one early in the third. Pettersson restored Belleville’s two-goal cushion shortly after, and Jorian Donovan sealed the win with an empty-netter.
Domenic DiVincentiis made 31 saves in the loss, as Manitoba dropped their first game in seven.
Wednesday, Nov. 26 – Manitoba 5, Belleville 1
Manitoba responded well in the second half of the back-to-back, cruising to a 5-1 win.
After a scoreless first period, the Moose erupted for four unanswered goals in the second. Mason Shaw opened the scoring, Jaret Anderson-Dolan doubled the lead, Brad Lambert buried his first of the season on the power play, and Samuel Fagemo added his fifth to make it 4-0. Belleville’s Olle Lycksell scored early in the third, but Fagemo answered five minutes later with his second of the night.
Manitoba improved to seven wins in its last eight games. DiVincentiis stopped 22 shots in the victory.
Saturday, Nov. 29 – Chicago 4, Manitoba 1
The Moose shifted to a two-game weekend set with Chicago, dropping the opener 4-1.
Kale Clague opened the scoring after exiting the penalty box, finishing a breakaway off an Isaak Phillips stretch pass. Chicago tied the game late in the first on a Bradly Nadeau power-play marker. After a scoreless second period, the Wolves took control in the third. Nadeau notched his second of the game, Felix Unger Sorum made it 3-1 late, and Nikita Pavlychev added an empty-netter. DiVincentiis finished with 26 saves.
The loss was Manitoba’s second in three games.
Sunday, Nov. 30 – Manitoba 4, Chicago 3 (SO)
Manitoba closed the homestand in dramatic fashion, earning a 4-3 shootout win to split the weekend series.
Brayden Yager opened the scoring with his third of the season, giving Manitoba a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. Chicago answered with goals from Unger Sorum and Ryan Suzuki, Suzuki’s goal coming on the power play with less than two seconds to go in the middle frame.
Phil Di Giuseppe tied the game midway through the third, and Nikita Chibrikov dazzled with a slick finish to put the Moose ahead 3-2 late. However, Pavlychev tied the game with 2:05 remaining, beating Isaac Poulter for his sixth of the season.
Overtime solved nothing, sending the matchup to a shootout. The Moose were perfect, going 3-for-3 with goals from Chibrikov, Yager, and Danny Zhilkin, who scored the winner. Isaac Poulter, the Winnipegger, made 28 saves in his Moose debut. With the win, Manitoba improved to 11-8-2.
The Moose now head out for a three-game road trip, beginning with a third straight meeting with the Wolves on Wednesday.
