The Manitoba Moose played two consecutive games in Grand Rapids over the weekend, falling to the Griffins on both Friday and Saturday at Van Andel Arena.
Friday night:
Grand Rapids opened the scoring when Austin Watson finished off a two-on-one with a quick snapshot. Manitoba answered shortly after, as Samuel Fagemo fired a shot through traffic from the top of the circle, beating Sebastian Cossa on the glove side.
Just 74 seconds later, Sheldon Dries restored the Griffins’ lead with a shorthanded marker, deking around Domenic DiVincentiis on a partial break. Dominik Shine added another with a perfectly placed shot to the top corner, extending the lead to 3-1.
Danny Zhilkin, skating in his 100th AHL game, brought the Moose within one midway through the second period. On the power play, he fired from above the right faceoff dot past Cossa’s glove.
Grand Rapids added insurance in the third when Alex Doucet buried a rebound for his first of the season, and Carter Mazur later sealed the 5-2 victory.
DiVincentiis made 36 saves in the loss (.878 SV%), while Brayden Yager earned his first AHL assist on Fagemo’s goal.
Saturday night:
After a scoreless opening frame, Eduards Tralmaks broke the deadlock on a second-period power play, giving the Griffins a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.
Grand Rapids struck twice in just 16 seconds early in the third, Tralmaks deflecting home his second of the night, followed quickly by John Leonard’s second of the season.
Phillip Di Giuseppe cut into the deficit with his first goal in a Moose uniform, a shorthanded wrist shot past Postava. Leonard later added an empty-netter, while Yager scored his second of the season with six seconds left to make it a 4-2 final.

Thomas Milic stopped 20 shots in his first start of the season.
The Moose continue their six-game road trip next weekend, facing the Griffins again on Friday, Oct. 24, before visiting the Chicago Wolves the following night.
