While the Winnipeg Jets continue to struggle, the Manitoba Moose have been thriving, winning ten of their last thirteen games after a midweek matchup against the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena and a weekend back-to-back in Iowa against the Wild at Casey’s Center.
Wednesday, Dec. 3 – Manitoba 5, Chicago 0
The Moose had played Chicago four times during their six-game homestand, winning three of those matchups, and continued to dominate the Wolves, this time in their own building. Manitoba was outshot 30-25 but controlled the scoresheet.
Brayden Yager continued to build confidence in the first period when he opened the scoring with his 4th of the season. Samuel Fagemo added his 7th to give the Moose a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
The second period saw no scoring, but in the third, Walker Duehr struck twice in 59 seconds, his 7th and 8th, to push Manitoba ahead 4-0. Phillip Di Giuseppe added his 6th on the power play late in regulation to cap off a dominant offensive showing.
WALKER DUEHR GOES BANG BANG
Domenic DiVincentiis earned a 30-save shutout as Manitoba picked up its second straight win.
Saturday, Dec. 6 – Iowa 3, Manitoba 0
The Moose saw plenty of chances against a struggling Iowa team, but it was simply one of those nights where nothing went their way. Manitoba fired 30 shots at Cal Petersen, including six power plays, but couldn’t solve the Wild goaltender.
Following a scoreless first period, Nicolas Aube-Kubel broke the deadlock midway through the second with his 4th, which held up as the game winner.
Iowa led 1-0 after 40 minutes.
Midway through the third, Bradley Marek added his 2nd of the season to make it 2-0. Former Winnipeg Ice captain Carson Lambos sealed the 3-0 win with an empty-net goal.
DiVincentiis stopped 25 shots in the loss, Manitoba’s second defeat in its last four games.
Sunday, Dec. 7 – Manitoba 4, Iowa 3
Manitoba and Iowa met again Sunday afternoon in the second half of the back-to-back, and this time the Moose got their revenge.
Kale Clague wasted no time, scoring just 17 seconds in with a walk-in shot from the slot to give Manitoba a 1-0 lead.
STRONG START TO THIS ONE 🫎
Michael Milne and Aube-Kubel answered for Iowa. Milne tied the game a little over two minutes later, and Aube-Kubel scored his 5th, this one shorthanded, to put the Wild ahead 2-1 after the opening frame.
On a second-period power play, Clague set up Di Giuseppe for a one-timer to tie it 2-2. Ryan Sandelin restored Iowa’s lead with his first of the season in the final minute of the period.
The Moose struck quickly in the third. Clague jammed home his second of the night amid a scramble in front, and just 47 seconds later Jaret Anderson-Dolan redirected a Ville Heinola feed past Petersen, who had taken over for Rousseau, to put Manitoba up 4-3. Ethan Frisch collected his first point in antlers on the go-ahead goal.
Ope, just gonna sneak right past ya
Manitoba held on for the 4-3 victory, their tenth win in their last thirteen games, while Isaac Poulter made 18 saves for his second win with his hometown Moose.
“I think we did a great job of answering back. We had a great start to the game, and I thought we played a solid game through and through. When we’re tracking and smothering them, there aren’t many teams that can create anything out of that,” said Clague following Sunday’s win.
The Moose now return home for six straight matchups, beginning with a pair against the Wild this upcoming weekend.
