The Moose closed a six game homestand with their first two games of the season against the Texas Stars, top affiliate of the Dallas Stars.  With a number of players out of the Moose lineup, they struggled, losing both games in convincing fashion.  The Moose have now won just two of eight games in 2018.  Read on for a recap of the weekend, and a preview of their final road trip before the All-Star break.
On Friday, the Moose were dominated from start to finish, and shut out for the first time on the season in a 4-0 loss.  Stars 2015 second round pick Roope Hintz had two goals, and Curtis McKenzie had a three point night with two goals and one assist in the game.  Brendan Lemieux was the top Moose player on the evening, with seven shots on goal and an even rating.  Eric Comrie gave up four goals on 33 shots in the game, dropping his record to 11-7-1 on the season.  Comrie has lost three of his five starts since returning from injury, and in those five games, has an alarming 4.04 GAA and .865 SV%.
On Saturday, the Moose put together a better effort in every facet except for the scoreboard.  Despite outshooting the Stars 39-32, the Moose found themselves on the wrong end of a 5-1 loss.  Tucker Poolman had the only Moose goal on the evening, his first career AHL goal, assisted by Nic Petan and Mason Appleton.  Former Guelph Storm standout Jason Dickinson led the charge for the Stars with two goals, including an empty-netter that sealed the deal, while former Moose forward Greg Rallo scored his first goal of the season.  Jamie Phillips made his first start since December 10 against Milwaukee and had a rough start, giving up four goals on 31 shots in the game.  He is now 1-1-0 with a 2.24 GAA and a .932 SV% on the season.

F Nic Petan, a 2013 Jets second round pick had one assist and nine shots on goal in the two games this weekend.  On the season, Petan has nine goals and 23 assists in 34 games, which matches his career high set in his rookie season with the Moose in 2015-16.

News and Notes

  • After being as high as second on the penalty kill this season, the Moose have now given up a powerplay goal in five straight games. Over that stretch, the penalty kill is operating at just 76% efficiency, and the Moose have a 1-4-0 record in those five games.
  • With the players that have been out of the lineup on recall or due to injury, the Moose recalled forwards Elgin Pearce and Jansen Harkins from Jacksonville of the ECHL on Saturday. They also signed forward Garrett Meurs to a PTO.  Harkins had six points in six games on assignment with Jacksonville.  Pearce led the Icemen with 29 points (13 goals, 16 assists) in 37 games.  Meurs was second in scoring with Wheeling of the ECHL, recording 36 points (15 goals, 21 assists) in 37 games.
