The Winnipeg Jets will be without Mark Scheifele as they look to fend off the St. Louis Blues in a do-or-die Game 7 tonight.
Jets head coach Scott Arniel confirmed to reporters that the star centre will not suit up for the decisive contest.
“He’s not in tonight,” Arniel said, per Mitchell Clinton.
Scheifele missed Winnipeg’s Game 6 loss and did not travel with the team to St. Louis. The 32-year-old centre left Game 5 after absorbing two heavy hits — one from Blues captain Brayden Schenn and another from forward Radek Faksa — in the first period. He did not return after the opening frame.
Scheifele had been a key contributor throughout the series, recording six points (two goals, four assists) in five games. He also finished second in team scoring during the regular season with a career-high 87 points, playing a major role in Winnipeg’s Presidents’ Trophy-winning campaign.
With Scheifele sidelined once again, veteran Vladislav Namestnikov steps into the first-line centre role. Captain Adam Lowry will anchor the second line, followed by Morgan Barron at C3 and Manitoba Moose captain Dominic Toninato centring the fourth line.
While the Jets remain without Mark Scheifele for Game 7, a more pressing concern may lie in the crease, where Vezina Trophy finalist Connor Hellebuyck has stumbled out of the gate in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Despite recording three wins in six appearances, Hellebuyck has struggled to find his form, posting an .815 save percentage and a 4.42 goals-against average. It’s a staggering drop-off from his stellar regular season, where the two-time Vezina winner racked up 47 victories in 63 games, boasting a .925 save percentage, a 2.00 goals-against average, and a league-leading eight shutouts.
Across 45 career playoff starts, Hellebuyck has compiled 18 wins, a .910 save percentage, a 2.85 goals-against average, and three shutouts — numbers the Jets will need him to return to if they hope to advance.
The winner of tonight’s Game 7 showdown between Winnipeg and St. Louis will move on to face the Dallas Stars in the second round. The Stars punched their ticket on Saturday, knocking out the Colorado Avalanche in their own Game 7 thriller.
