The Winnipeg Jets wrap up a two game homestand as they host the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. It’s always a fun night when the Blackhawks come to town, partly because of their Winnipeg connections and partly because of the rivalry between these two teams. Both Toews and Keith have ties to Winnipeg and there are always plenty of support for the hometown kids. Regardless of the Winnipeg connections, the Jets are looking for a convincing win after their third period collapse against the Penguins.

Jets Notebook

  • Patrik Laine is sitting on 99 career goals and has the chance to become the fourth youngest player to reach the 100 goal milestone. The fans are ready to jump out of their seats every time he touches the puck and getting goal number 100 on home ice would be a great moment for the Finnish superstar.
  • The third period has been the bane of the Jets existence this season. The Jets have given up third period leads multiple times this season and their confidence when playing from ahead seems to be shaken. The Jets need to get a few wins under their belt to try and dispel the trend of surrendering third period leads.
  • Connor Hellebuyck is looking for another bounce back performance. He hasn’t been close to the level he was at last season and the Jets are hoping he can get back on track sooner rather than later. He’s been great in bounce back performances historically, and will look to do that again tonight.
  • The Jets are wrapping up a two game homestand before they hit the east coast on a three game trip. The Jets play New Jersey on Saturday before they play the Rangers on Sunday. They finish the trip by facing the Islanders next Tuesday before they come back to Bell MTS Place for four straight games.

Blackhawks Notebook

  • While having Patrick Kane lead the Hawks is no surprise, it is surprising that he leads the team in goals (13), assists (15), and points (28). There isn’t anyone else even close to Kane as far as offensive stats go with Toews sitting at 21 points and DeBrincat sitting at 19 points.
  • There will be a few new faces in the Blackhawks lineup as they made a deal last week for Dylan Strome and Brendan Perlini. They shipped away Nick Schmaltz in an effort to get younger and increase their depth. Perlini is only 22 years old and has 57 points in 154 NHL games while Strome is only 21 years old and has 18 points in 49 games. Strome is also a former third overall pick and could make a big impact down the road in Chicago.
  • This will be the first game of a two game road trip for Chicago. After playing in Winnipeg, they are off to Nashville to take on the Preds Saturday evening.
  • The Blackhawks special teams have been atrocious this season. With the last ranked powerplay, and the 29th ranked penalty kill, the Jets have an enormous edge on special teams. It could be a big night for the Jets powerplay that has seen their percentages drop over the last few games.
