The Winnipeg Jets continue their road trip as they take on the Tampa Bay Lightning this afternoon. The Jets are coming off a solid win against Florida where the top line stole the show as both Scheifele and Laine had three points in the game. That victory improved the Jets’ record to an impressive 5-1-1 in the month of November and they are hoping to build on it today.

Last Lightning Game

The Lightning scored early and often as they absolutely dismantled the Rangers 9-3. After ripping off four goals in the first, they added four more in the second before settling down in the third and adding one more to their total. Kucherov led the way with four points while Killorn, Gourde, Stamkos, and Hedman all scored three points on the night.

Fun Lightning Fact…

In their huge victory the other night, the Lightning scored five powerplay goals on eight attempts. That’s the most powerplay goals by any team in one game since Colorado scored all five of their goals on the powerplay on February 20, 2018. The last time the NHL has seen more powerplay goals than that is back in 2014 when the Anaheim Ducks scored 6 of their goals with the man-advantage. The funniest part of the story is that both instances of Colorado scoring 5 in 2018 and Anaheim scoring 6 in 2014 were against the Vancouver Canucks. What are the chances of that…

What They’re Saying…

“On Thursday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning surprised their fans and the New York Rangers by scoring three goals in just 61 seconds. For a team that has been struggling a bit on offense to start the season, it was a bit of a surprise. As was the final score of 9-3. Three goals in just over a minute is pretty impressive, but it’s not a team record. In fact, it’s not even the second fastest they’ve scored three goals.”

Last Jets Game

A back and forth game saw the Jets score the go-ahead goal multiple times only to have Florida match it a few minutes later. Winnipeg finally took hold of the game late in the third period as they scored to go up 3-2 and then scored again a few minutes later to go up 4-2. Florida managed to score one goal with the empty net, but couldn’t complete the comeback as the Jets narrowly escaped with the win.

Fun Jets Facts…

  • With three assists on Thursday, Patrik Laine surpassed 200 points for his career. Reaching the milestone in only 255 games, he’s the second fastest player to reach 200 points in franchise history. Ilya Kovalchuk managed to score 200 points in only 222 games back in the Atlanta days.
  • According to naturalstattrick, Connor Hellebuyck is the best in the league at GSAA (goals saved above average). Essentially this means that Hellebuyck has saved 8.32 goals more than whatt he would be expected to save given the quantity and quality of shots against. Greiss is second in the league at 7.90 while Grubauer is third at 7.30.
