JGD 45: Jets head into the Wild, green yonder

Jan 15, 2016, 14:36 ESTUpdated: Invalid DateTime
The Winnipeg Jets head into Minnesota to face the Wild and finish off the second half of back to back games.
The Jets have the advantage so far in the regular season series, winning two out of three games so far between the Jets and Wild. This will be the third game between the two teams that is played at Xcel Energy Center, with each team winning once.
The Jets are coming right off a wild (no pun intended) 5-4 overtime win over the Nashville Predators. It was a game that probably put a lot of Jets fans into emotional counseling, though.
It was a game that saw an offensive outburst from the Jets, but they blew a 4-1 lead and were forced to go to overtime. To make matter worse, they surrendered the lead with about 17 seconds remaining. Thankfully, they were able to salvage the win when Blake Wheeler scored the overtime winner. Bryan Little, Dustin Byguflien (two) and Nik Ehlers were the other goal scorers.
They’ll look to win consecutive games for the first time since December 27th and 29th.
They’ll face a Wild team that has lost it’s last two games and five of their last seven. The Wild have scored just 15 goals in those seven games. A big reason for that has been their power play struggles.
LINEUPS

Winnipeg Jets (20-21-3)
Blake Wheeler was the overtime hero last night, and he continues to lead the Jets with six points in the last seven games (2 goals, 4 assists). Bryan Little, Andrew Ladd and Drew Stafford all have five points in the last seven as well.
Nik Ehlers is starting to heat up as well, as he’s scored in back to back games.
Dustin Byfuglien, who is coming off a two-goal night, left the game in the third period and seems to be a game time decision tonight. If he is unavailable, Paul Postma may be available to make his return to the lineup.
Byfuglien has four points in three games against the Wild this season (1 goal, 3 assists).
Connor Hellebuyck played last night against the Predators, making 31 saves in the win. So, it would make sense that Michael Hutchinson could get the start tonight.
However, Hutchinson has lost his last six starts.
Minnesota Wild (22-13-8)
Zach Parise has five goals in the last seven games for the Wild.
Thomas Vanek leads all wild skaters with three points (2 goals, 1 assist) in three games against the Jets.
Interesting addition to the Wild lineup. Cody Almond will play in his first NHL game since the 2011-12 season. He’s played the past few seasons in the Swiss league before returning to the Wild organization.
Ryan Suter has been very hot as of late, leading all Wild skaters with six points (1 goal, 5 assists) in the last seven games.
As stated earlier, Nate Prosser will make his return to the lineup tonight.
Devan Dubnyk will get the start tonight.
Dubnyk allowed three goals on 23 shots in a 3-2 loss against the Buffalo Sabres in the Wild’s last game. He has gone 2-2-2 with a 2.31 GAA and a .924 save percentage in the month of January.
PREDICTIONS
Game Day Prediction: The Jets haven’t been too successful in the second leg of back to backs. They have gone 2-4-1 so far in the second game of back to backs. Despite that, I feel they win tonight, 4-2.
Obvious Prediction: Ehlers will look significantly better playing without Thorburn than with.
Not so Obvious Prediction: Joel Armia looked very good last night against the Predators. Tonight, he has his best game in the NHL.
