JGD 26: Jets Go For Season Sweep Against Toronto

Since arriving from Atlanta in 2011, the Winnipeg Jets have dominated the Toronto Maple Leafs at the MTS Centre. The Jets are 5-1 against the Buds when they meet up at the corner of Portage and Donald. The Jets hope to continue that trend when the Leafs pay their only visit to the Manitoba capital on Wednesday night.

WINNIPEG (11-12-2)
Don’t expect too much line juggling from Paul Maurice. But there could be an opportunity for Joel Armia to crack the lineup. The towering winger skated with Andrew Ladd and Bryan Little on Tuesday as Blake Wheeler sat out practice for maintenance reasons.
Wheeler is expected to play but Armia may come in for Anthony Peluso on the fourth line.

The big word on the street was that the Jets were willing to part with Dustin Byfuglien in order to acquire Travis Hamonic from the New York Islanders. According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Islanders turned down the deal but that didn’t stop the chatter around the water coolers in Winnipeg. Ben Chiarot may come in for Adam Pardy, who struggled in Saturday’s 5-3 loss to Colorado.

Michael Hutchinson has struggled in his last three starts, losing all three starts with a ghastly .860 save percentage. Connor Hellebuyck won his lone start Friday in Minnesota, stopping 15 out of 16 shots. Don’t be surprised if the rookie makes his home debut.
TORONTO (8-11-5)
Leo Komarov has been on fire lately, scoring 4 goals in 3 games. This includes a two-goal effort, in Toronto’s 3-0 shut-out over Edmonton on Monday night. Winkler Manitoba native Byron Froese will play his first game in his home province so expect many folks to make the 75 minute drive from Winkler to see him play.

Morgan Rielly is a rising star and will be one to watch for the Leafs. The Jets should focus on the former Moose Jaw Warrior by pressuring him at every opportunity. If Rielly is given time he will make the correct play to start the Leafs attack.

There is a possibility that James Reimer may return to the lineup. The Morweena Manitoba native has missed the last two games with a lower body injury. If Reimer can’t go, look for Garret Sparks to get the call. The rookie made his NHL debut on Monday and posted a shutout against Edmonton.
Predictions
Game Day Prediction: The Leafs are playing better but their curse at the MTS Centre continues. Jets win 3-1 with an empty netter to seal the deal.
Obvious Prediction: Jets fans will complain about the number of Leaf jerseys inside the MTS Centre.
Not So Obvious Prediction: Kevin Cheveldayoff will be on the phone with Garth Snow for most of the game, trying to swing a deal that brings Travis Hamonic to Winnipeg.
