JGD 11: Looking For Revenge in Washington

By Dustin Mymko
Nov 3, 2016, 14:00 EDTUpdated: Invalid DateTime
After a heartbreaking loss to the Capitals in the final seconds on Tuesday, the Jets head out on a three game east coast road trip that starts with a chance at revenge in Washington. Tonight’s game is also the first half of a back-to-back, as the Jets face the Red Wings tomorrow in Detroit, before finishing off this trip against Eastern Conference opponents at Madison Square Gardens against the Rangers on Sunday.
After the jump, we’ll set-up tonight’s game.
After losing Mark Stuart to an injury sustained during the morning skate on Tuesday, Julian Melchiori got the call-up and made his season debut in the first half of this home-and-home. The situation got worse for the already-banged-up Jets (who are missing Bryan Little, Tyler Myers, Drew Stafford, and a certain holdout defenceman) when Shawn Matthias went down near the end of the first period. He joins Bryan Little and Drew Stafford on IR (with Myers and Stuart listed as day-to-day) and now it looks like we’ll see the season debut of Andrew Copp, as he got the call-up and looks to slot in on the fourth line. If the morning skate in Washington is any indication, it looks like Paul Maurice has gotten the line blender out again and will be mixing things up.
The Capitals begin a three game homestand tonight after winning the final three of four on a western Canadian road trip.
Puck drops at 6pm Winnipeg time, and will be broadcast on TSN3 and TSN1290.

Reports have Hutchinson starting in net based on him being the only goalie on the ice for a brief practice prior to catching the flight to Washington yesterday. I wouldn’t be shocked, however, if Connor Hellebuyck gets a chance to go again, with Hutch getting the nod tomorrow in Detroit.
Coach Maurice also mentioned during the pre-game scrum that Chris Thorburn did not make the trip to Washington due to a ‘positive family day’. Last time we saw something like this, Dustin Byfuglien’s wife had a baby. We’ll have to monitor this situation.

No changes are expected from Washington’s line-up on Tuesday.
Predictions:
Game Prediction: Jets get back in the win column with a 4-2 win over the Capitals.
Obvious Prediction: Ovi bags one tonight, after directing a ton of shots towards the Jets net on Tuesday without getting on the scoresheet.
Not So Obvious Prediction: Adam Lowry silences some critics with another goal, this one on the power-play, banging home a rebound.
