Luke Schenn open to a trade out of Winnipeg

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported Wednesday that Winnipeg Jets defenceman Luke Schenn is open to a trade out of Winnipeg, particularly to a Stanley Cup contender.
In recent days, it’s become clear that Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is not ready to quit on the season yet. Despite sitting last in the league at 15-21-5, Cheveldayoff is reportedly looking to add more firepower, ideally a second-line forward.
“The interesting thing is that we’re starting to hear about Luke Schenn, who just played his 1,100th game with the Jets last night,” Pagnotta said. “I don’t know if that’ll be his last with the Jets, but I don’t know how much more runway there is if things continue status quo. There is some word that Luke Schenn wouldn’t mind a change of scenery. He would be open to a move.
“I don’t know if that relates to how the team is performing, and he’s been scratched a few times. I’m sure it all correlates. But the latest we’ve got is that he hasn’t asked for a trade, but he is open to a change of scenery, and that’s something the Jets are monitoring now.”
Schenn, 36, carries a $2.75 million cap hit and is set to become a free agent in July. Through 28 games this season, he has one goal and four assists for five points. Over his 1,100-game NHL career, Schenn has recorded 210 points (45 goals, 165 assists).
The Jets acquired the six-foot-two defenceman from the Pittsburgh Penguins in March 2025 in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick. The move hasn’t worked out as hoped for Winnipeg, so it will be interesting to see whether the Jets can regain some draft capital or potentially use Schenn as part of a deal to bring in a second-line forward.
