Saturday might be the Winnipeg Jets’ lucky day. They’re now 5-0-0 on Saturday nights, taking down the Nashville Predators 5-2 to end their four-game winless stretch. Gabriel Vilardi opened the scoring, Nino Niederreiter scored his 5th and 6th, Cole Perfetti recorded his first goal since Nov. 15, Kyle Connor added his 12th, and Eric Comrie turned aside 20 shots.
Winnipeg hasn’t been scoring enough lately, so they wasted no time getting going as Vilardi opened the scoring just 47 seconds into the contest. Justus Annunen stopped Mark Scheifele’s initial shot, and Vilardi scooped up the rebound for his 11th of the season.
The Jets’ secondary scoring finally came through when Niederreiter ripped a shot short side past Annunen’s blocker, making it 2-0 Winnipeg.
The Jets carried that lead into the middle frame and added to it when Cole Perfetti found the back of the net for his 2nd of the season. Vladislav Namestnikov centered a pass to Perfetti in the slot, and he put it past Annunen.
Nashville got on the board late with a power-play marker from Nick Blankenburg, his 4th. Winnipeg headed into the second intermission up 3-1.
Luke Evangelista made things interesting 2:45 into the third period, roofing the puck from a tough angle over Comrie’s shoulder for his 4th of the season, cutting the lead to 3-2.
Midway through the third, Connor redirected a Luke Schenn slap-pass past Annunen for his 12th of the season, restoring Winnipeg’s two-goal lead.
Niederreiter added his second with an empty-net goal, helping the Jets improve to 13-11-0.
Winnipeg will continue their five-game road trip Monday in Buffalo against the Sabres. Puck drop is at 6:30 p.m. CST on Amazon Prime.
