The Winnipeg Jets announced Wednesday evening that they’ve extended captain Adam Lowry to a five-year, $5 million contract beginning in the 2026-27 season.
Lowry, 32, has appeared in seven games so far after missing the start of the year while recovering from hip surgery he underwent in May. The St. Louis, MI product has recorded one goal and two assists for three points.
Drafted 67th overall in the third round of the 2011 NHL Draft, Lowry has spent his entire career with the Jets. He’s skated in 782 NHL games, posting 276 points (122G, 154A). By the end of this extension, he’ll be 38, typically the age when many players begin to eye retirement.
The 6-foot-5, two-way force is currently in the final season of the five-year, $16.25 million deal he signed in April 2021.
This marks yet another major signing for Winnipeg, adding to a busy five-month stretch of locking up key pieces. The Jets signed hometown hero Jonathan Toews on July 1 (1x$2M), Gustav Nyquist on July 2 (1x$3.25M), Morgan Barron on July 14 (2x$1.85M), Gabriel Vilardi on July 18 (6x$7.5M), Dylan Samberg on July 30 (3x$5.75M), Kyle Connor on Oct. 8 (8x$12.5M), and now their leader on and off the ice, Lowry.
Lowry was named the third captain in Jets 2.0 history back in September 2023.
Internationally, he helped Canada capture silver at the 2022 World Championship, recording nine points (4G, 5A) and four PIMs in 10 games.
With Lowry now locked up long term, organizational attention shifts to 23-year-old forward Cole Perfetti, whose two-year, $6.5 million contract expires at the end of the season. He’ll become an RFA.
