Kevin Cheveldayoff doesn’t take a break. After a number of moves made during the day, he followed it up by signing Mason Appleton to a two-year contract worth 900k per year.

This is exactly the type of contract expected for a player like Appleton. Two years gives enough time for him to settle in and get some more experience while allowing him a chance to improve and earn a larger payday in two years if he plays really well.

Appleton played 46 games with the Jets last year and had five goals and three assists. There isn’t much left for Appleton to prove at the AHL level as he appears to have fully made the jump to the NHL. A freak injury playing football at the Winter Classic derailed his season for a number of weeks, but Appleton will be a valuable part of the bottom six in the upcoming season. He plays a fast game and can add a bit of skill to the bottom six. After scoring 0.85 points per game for the Moose in the last two years, he’s proved that he can find the back of the net.

The Jets desperately need their bottom six to add some secondary scoring and Appleton will look to help the cause in the upcoming season.
