The Winnipeg Jets and the NHL announced Saturday afternoon that forward Mark Scheifele has been named the league’s Second Star of the Month for October.
Scheifele, 32, recorded at least one point in 10 of Winnipeg’s 11 games in October, helping the Jets to an 8-3-0 record and a share of second place in the Western Conference to start the season. The Kitchener, Ont. native entered November (prior to Nov. 1 vs. PIT) tied for the NHL lead with nine goals, while his 18 points ranked second overall. He also scored a power-play goal on Oct. 18 to pass Blake Wheeler as the franchise’s all-time points leader (813).
Scheifele led the Jets in October in goals (9), points (18), power-play goals (3), and game-winning goals (2), per NHL Stats. Winnipeg went 6-1-0 in games where he scored, and he posted six multi-point outings, including two three-point performances. He opened the season on a six-game point streak (7G, 3A), which featured a five-game goal streak from Oct. 11-20.
This marks the first time in Scheifele’s career that he has been selected among the NHL’s Three Stars of the Month. He joins Kyle Connor (Oct. 2024) and Connor Hellebuyck (Dec. 2023) as the only Jets players to earn the honour since 2018-19, and just the fourth Winnipeg player to do so since the franchise relocated to Winnipeg.
Vegas Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel was named the First Star of the Month (8G, 11A), while Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jakub Dobeš earned the Third Star after going 6-0-0 with a .930 save percentage in October.
The Jets will kick off a six-game road trip Tuesday night in Los Angeles. Puck drop is set for 9:30 p.m. CST on TSN3.
