The Winnipeg Jets announced this morning, ahead of their matchup in Seattle, that defenceman Dylan Samberg will make his season debut, while forward Gustav Nyquist has been activated off injured reserve and will also play tonight.
Samberg, 26, was sidelined for the first month and a half of the season after breaking his wrist during a preseason game against the Calgary Flames on Sept. 27. The Hermantown, Minnesota native will return to his spot on the Jets’ second pairing alongside Neal Pionk. With Samberg back in the lineup, Logan Stanley will move down to the third pairing to skate with Colin Miller against the Kraken.
In 2024-25, Samberg appeared in 60 games, registering 20 points (6G, 14A). He added three assists in 13 postseason contests.
Nyquist, 36, last played on Oct. 30 against the Chicago Blackhawks and has been listed as “day-to-day” with an undisclosed injury. He’ll return tonight still in search of his first goal of the season, having notched five assists through 11 games so far.
Winnipeg has been tested by several young, up-and-coming teams during this six-game road trip. The Jets have been exposed at times by their lack of speed and defensive structure, not quite playing the brand of hockey fans are used to seeing. But with the lineup gradually getting healthier each game, the group should be trending back toward its identity. Adam Lowry and Cole Perfetti returned earlier in the trip, and with Samberg and Nyquist rejoining the club, the Jets will be looking for a full 60-minute effort tonight in Seattle.
Puck drop is set for 9:00 p.m. CST on TSN3.
