The 5-foot-11 centre was drafted 14th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft and was later dealt to the Jets in August 2024 in exchange for prospect Rutger McGroarty.
Prior to this season, Yager played four seasons in the WHL with the Moose Jaw Warriors and Lethbridge Hurricanes and helped Moose Jaw capture a WHL championship in 2023-24. Yager has also represented Canada twice at the World Juniors in 2024 and 2025.
