Winnipeg Jets prospect Dmitri Rashevsky has reportedly signed a three-year offer sheet with Avangard Omsk, awaiting a response from his current club, Dynamo Moskva, according to reporter Dylan Griffing.
Rashevsky, selected by the Jets in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft, has remained in Russia since being drafted, developing in the KHL. He’ll be 25 by the start of the 2025–26 season, and with this latest contract development, his chances of ever joining the Jets organization appear increasingly slim.
If Rashevsky plays out the full three-year deal, he wouldn’t be available to join the Jets until he’s 28 years old. While not impossible, the transition to North American ice and NHL play becomes significantly more difficult at that stage, especially for a player who has never suited up for a single game on this side of the Atlantic.
Despite the concerns about his NHL future, Rashevsky continues to perform at a high level in Russia. The 6-foot-1, 183-pound left-shot winger has posted four straight seasons of 35 or more points in the KHL. Most recently, he notched 19 goals and 40 points in 65 games—a testament to his consistency and offensive upside.
“Rashevsky’s motor never stops,” noted EliteProspects in their 2021 NHL Draft Guide. “Be it on the forecheck and on the backcheck, at the start of his shift or at the end of his shift… the forward is single-minded; he wants the puck on his stick and in the back of the opposing net.”
For the Jets, this news represents a missed opportunity. With uncertainty surrounding Nikolaj Ehlers’ future in Winnipeg, there could have been a path for Rashevsky to compete for a roster spot in the near future. Though the door isn’t completely closed, the likelihood of the St. Petersburg native ever making the leap to the NHL grows smaller with time.
