Jets Nation Recap: Winnipeg Jets win streak ends in second of road back-to-backs

The Winnipeg Jets won four games in a row prior to their bout against the Vancouver Canucks. They went .500 on a two-game road trip, with the loss coming on a second of a back-to-back. Things could be worse… of course, they could be better too.
The Jets started off strong. They kept even in terms of possession and scoring chances. The Jets even scored the first two, one each from Jiri Tlusty and Blake Wheeler. The Canucks picked up one from Chris Higgins, but things were still okay.
Then something happened.
Whether it be fatigue, or rallying from the opposition, or some mix thereof, the Canucks came back.
The Canucks generated another quick goal and shut down the Jets. The Jets struggled to create anything thereafter and the Canucks picked up another two on the empty net.
Let’s break it down.
Three Keys
Tlusty Ups and Downs – Tlusty scored the opening goal and his first as a Jet. This was probably pretty great experience for him… but Tlusty’s penalty was unfortunately the turning point of the game.
Momentum Swing – Claims on momentum swings tend to be a bit disingenuous. Usually it’s just a couple of bounces that swung the score. Here though the Jets fell apart and the Canucks picked up. After Tlusty was caught with slashing at about the 35 minute the Jets were out-chanced 10-1 and let in two goals to give the opposition the lead.
Top six / bottom six – The Jets injuries and sore depth started to show with their fatigue. Wish soon for a return of Dustin Byfuglien, Mathieu Perreault, and Bryan Little.
