Just when you think the Winnipeg Jets can’t find any more ways to lose, they unearth another botched formula. A 2-0 lead turns into a 3-2 loss at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings, who desperately need the points to extend a playoff streak that lasts forever.
Things looked promising in the first period. In fact, they looked terrific. Marko Dano scored his first goal as a Jet, finishing off a splendid Mathieu Perrault dish that looked mighty tasty.
Five minutes later, Tyler Myers undressed Henrik Zetterberg then snapped home a perfect shot to give the Jets a “comfortable” cushion. It may have been the best period of hockey the Jets have played in two months.
But the tank started to warm up in the middle frame. Once again, a pathetic power play (we have said that way too often this season) started the Jets downfall and gave the Wings life. Dylan Larkin fired home his 20th of the season to pull the Wings to within one. Six minutes later, Jonathan Ericsson’s shot deflected off the skate of Paul Postma past a helpless Michael Hutchinson to even the game.
Justin Abdelkader, who was a physical pest all night, delivered the kill shot with under five minutes left in the third with a laser over Hutchinson’s shoulder and into the top corner.
The Jets had a chance to equalize with 8 seconds left but Blake Wheeler’s shot hit the crossbar and stayed out preserving the tank job that could lead to Auston Matthews. Typical Jets.

Three Keys:

What’s Going On…With The Power Play: The late, great Marvin Gaye Jr. didn’t sing about hockey on his seminal 1971 album, but the Jets and their fans must be wondering what’s going on and what’s gone wrong with the man advantage this season. The Jets were 0/4 with the power play and in three of those opportunities, they didn’t register a shot on goal. We’ve said it before but fire Pascal Vincent!
Very Superstitious Writing On The Wall: Stevie Wonder had an eerie feeling back in 1972 and that feeling haunts the Jets now. Both Dustin Byfuglien and Toby Enstrom left the game due to injuries although Enstrom did return. With Nikolaj Ehlers and Bryan Little still hurt, one has to wonder if the Jets are cursed.
Tears Of A Clown: We’re not quite sure who the clown is on this Jets roster, but there are plenty of tears coming from Jets fans and tonight’s game added more heartbreak.
