Jets Nation Recap: Jets collapse late again and bring another WTF moment

By Garret Hohl

De ja vu.
Seriously? Seriously?
No team should be leading this often yet lose three games in a row. What’s going on here.
Lee Stempniak opened the scoring, only to have Cam Folwer tie. The second saw five goals in total. Corey Perry and Jakub Silfverberg scored for the Anaheim Ducks. Tyler Myers, Blake Wheeler, and Bryan Little scored for the Winnipeg Jets.
The Jets only needed to stay ahead by one goal… but they did not. Ryan Kesler tied it with 2 minutes and 14 seconds remaining, and Rickard Rakell delivered the killing blow in overtime.
Let’s break it down.
Three Keys
Screw this game. I love you hockey so much yet you hurt me so much.
GoatTending – The Jets have struggled as a whole lately, but this game was less team and more individuals. Ondrej Pavelec was not THE reason the Jets lost. Far from it. But he did not save the Jets either. He is now at 0.892 for the entire series.
Not so Experienced Leadership – Andrew Ladd and Dustin Byfuglien were supposed to be the ones stepping up a gear. The first goal was not Byfuglien’s fault (that was Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler cheating on the rush) but he struggled thereafter. Ladd wasn’t as bad as the last two games, but still has struggled.
Please No Sweep – Jets played well enough to deservedly win this game… but didn’t. Sigh.
