Jets Nation Recap: Jets can’t buy a goal as Neuvirth stands on his head

Well, the game didn’t exactly go as planned, but if things always did, the Jets would be 82-0 (but then what about the other team’s plans??).
The Jets kept creating chance after chance, putting pucks to the net, only to have Michal Neuvirth stop them all for his third shutout of the season.
The first period was fairly even, with both teams generating some chances and shots at evens and on the power play. The Flyers were the only ones to find the back of the net though, with a nifty shot from Brayden Schenn in the middle spot in the high slot in the umbrella formation.
There was no scoring in the second period, but not for a lack of effort. The Jets generated a tonne of chances, but still nothing changed.
The Jets continued to increase the pressure, only to deflate with Tobias Enstrom picking up a minor and the Flyers capitalizing with the goal from Wayne Simmonds.
The Jets then pulled Ondrej Pavelec, only to have the Flyers hit the empty net.
Three Keys
Michal Neuvirth – The Jets out chanced the Flyers at evens and created a few on the power play, only to find the Neuvirth behind every single shot. The man was on fire and no one solve him, with the netminder stopping all 28 shots and taking the NHL’s shutout lead.
Special Teams – While the Jets were the better team at even strength, the penalty kill continued to prevent the opposition from creating high-danger scoring chances and shots up close. The Jets have been one of the most porous teams on the kill, which is an issue with how often they are at a man-disadvantage.
Big Road Ahead – Hopefully the Jets can work out the kinks because they have a big roadtrip ahead with a tonne of inttradivision or “four point” games. A streak one way or the other could make or break the Jets’ hopes for the playoffs.
