Jets Nation Recap: Comeback in the Joe!

The Winnipeg Jets took the Detroit Red Wings to the skills competition and won the coin toss for an extra point. Of course the Jets can be declared the unanimous winners of the Evander Kane trade, since Drew Stafford and Tyler Myers now have more points on the Jets than Zach Bogosian and Kane have for the Buffalo Sabres.
The Jets struggled early, being dominated in shots, chances, possession… basically whatever you could think of. After an embarrassing first period -and probably an earful from Paul Maurice- the Jets decided to shape up and stuck it back to the Wings.

Three Keys
The Line Shuffle – Players are people too. Sometimes you just have to make a change for the sake of it, even if the change isn’t necessarily to the better option. Maurice swapped Blake Wheeler and Drew Stafford after the first. The move paid off, as the Jets went from being severely out worked and out played to the exact opposite.
New Guys – While neither Drew Stafford or Tyler Myers had the greatest night in the shot metrics, they made their presence felt and impacted the game. Myers picked up two assists, one of which came from a beautiful drive to the net. Not wanting to be outdone, Stafford scored both in the second period and the game winning goal in the shoot out.
Big Buff – Dustin Byfuglien had another dominant night. He was strong on the puck and pushed the play well while taking most of the Jets defensive zone starts. His partner, Ben Chiarot, was exposed early a few times by the Red Wings speed, but he held his own for the second. Maurice interestingly shortened his bench in the third, placing young star Jacob Trouba with Dustin Byfuglien for key moments.
