When discussing the winner or loser of the Evander Kane trade many fans quickly point to the Jets as winners, (to which I don’t disagree) but there is one piece of the deal they often forget.

 Many Jets fans were happy to see Evander Kane shipped to Buffalo in 2015. There were some that were even glad to see Zach Bogosian head out the door, but most thought the trade ended there. There is one piece of the Evander Kane trade that everybody forgets about, goaltending prospect Jason Kasdorf. 

Kasdorf, from Winnipeg, played for the Junior A Portage Terriers from 2009-2011 and posted a 2.53 GAA and a .912 save percentage in his final season. One of his shining moments was posting a shutout win in game 7 of the ANAVET Cup against LaRonge in 2011. 

He was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets 157th overall in the 6th round in 2011. Kasdorf went on to play in the USHL for the Des Moines Buccaneers for the 2011-12 season and most recently was playing in the NCAA division 1 for the RPI Engineers. Rensselaer Polytech. Inst. recently lost their quarter final match against Harvard on March 12th, ending their season.

With one year left of college eligibilty, Kasdorf’s agent presented him with the offer from the Sabres to which he accepted. Kasdorf will now have an opportunity to help swing the trade pendulum back towards the Buffalo side. We caught up with Kasdorf upon learning of his contract.
