Jets’ Mathieu Perreault leaves game vs. Oilers with apparent left leg injury; will not return

Feb 16, 2015, 20:26 ESTUpdated:
Just as the Winnipeg Jets managed a blockbuster trade that served to restore some semblance of forward depth to their roster, it appears that they may be without the services of forward Mathieu Perreault for a while.
Perreault sustained an apparent left leg injury in the first period of Monday night’s game against the Edmonton Oilers. While attempting to dump the puck into the Oilers zone for a routine line change Perreault was hit into the boards by defenseman Jeff Petry. Perreault’s left leg appeared to get sandwiched awkwardly between Perreault and the board on the play.
The diminutive Jets forward, a key offseason acquisition, was helped off of the ice and didn’t put any weight on his left leg.
The 27-year-old forward has scored 18 goals and pitched in 36 total points in 55 games this season.
UPDATE: Perreault will not return to Monday night’s game with what the Jets are calling a lower-body injury. He was spotted leaving the rink with a walking boot, which is generally suggestive of a medium-term injury.
