The Winnipeg Jets announced Thursday morning that they have loaned defencemen Elias Salomonsson and Isaak Phillips to the Manitoba Moose.

The move is fairly self-explanatory. With the Jets now entering the Olympic break, they won’t skate again until Feb. 17 before resuming play Feb. 25 in Vancouver. The Moose, however, will play six games during that span, allowing Salomonsson and Phillips to stay in game action and continue getting reps instead of sitting.

It also shouldn’t come as a surprise given what Jets head coach Scott Arniel said following Wednesday’s morning skate.

Salomonsson, who was recalled after Neal Pionk suffered an injury, appeared in nine games with the Jets. While he didn’t record a point, the 21-year-old looked steady alongside Dylan Samberg on the second pairing, something the organization could be seeing for years to come. Salomonsson has appeared in 13 games with Winnipeg this season.

Drafted 55th overall in the second round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, Salomonsson has recorded one goal and seven assists in 25 games with Manitoba this season.

Phillips has appeared in just two games with the Jets, making his team debut on Jan. 19 against his former Chicago Blackhawks, followed by a Jan. 20 matchup against the St. Louis Blues. Outside of those appearances, he’s been a healthy scratch.

Phillips, 24, was selected 141st overall in the fifth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by Chicago. He has tallied three goals and 12 assists in 35 games with the Moose this season.
