The Winnipeg Jets announced Sunday morning that they have loaned forward Brad Lambert to the Manitoba Moose and recalled defenceman Kale Clague from the Moose.
On Saturday afternoon, Jets defenceman Haydn Fleury suffered a lower-body injury after blocking a shot from Los Angeles Kings forward Adrian Kempe.
Fleury left the ice in the second period and did not return to the game. He briefly tested his leg following the second intermission but did not come back out with his teammates for the third period, leaving the Jets to play with five defencemen.
Jets Head coach Scott Arniel spoke postgame, clarifying that Kempe’s shot struck Fleury near the knee cap.
“Yeah, he got hit with that shot. He’s pretty sore,” Arniel said. “It caught him on the side of the knee cap. He’ll wake up and we’ll see how he is, see how he’s doing.”
Fleury was absent from Sunday’s skate, leading to the Jets recalling Clague from their AHL affiliate.
Lambert’s reassignment doesn’t come as a major surprise, as the 21-year-old forward sat out the club’s first two games of the season. With his departure, the Jets free up a roster spot for Clague, who will likely serve as the seventh defenceman on the upcoming eastern road trip against the New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers.
Game time in New York on Thanksgiving Monday is set for 12:00 p.m. CDT, followed by a matchup in Philadelphia on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Both games will be available on TSN3.
