Just a couple of weeks ago, we found out who EA Sports was putting on the cover of this year’s NHL video game—Matthew Tkachuk. He’ll be featured on the standard edition of NHL 26 lifting the Stanley Cup, while the deluxe edition showcases the full Tkachuk family with Matthew, his brother Brady, and their dad Keith.
After the cover reveal, EA dropped the usual rollout with a trailer, gameplay deep dive, and more. Now, they’ve started releasing player ratings, and today they announced the top 10 left and right defencemen in the game. Winnipeg Jets fans will be happy to know that Josh Morrissey made the cut.
Morrissey comes in as the 8th-best left defenceman with a 90 overall rating. Carolina’s Jaccob Slavin has the same overall but sits in 7th, so you could argue Morrissey is essentially tied for that spot. Ahead of them are Miro Heiskanen (6th, 91 overall), Rasmus Dahlin (5th, 92), Victor Hedman (4th, 92), Roman Josi (3rd, 92), Zach Werenski (2nd, 92), and at the very top, Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes with a 95 overall.
It’s also worth noting that Morrissey got a slight boost compared to last year—moving up from an 89 in NHL 25 to a 90 this year. For Jets fans, seeing Morrissey ranked among the top blueliners in the game is a nice bit of recognition. He’s not just a local fan favorite anymore—he’s consistently in the conversation with the NHL’s elite. A 90 overall puts him in the same tier as some of the game’s most reliable and respected defencemen, which feels pretty fair given his role as the Jets’ anchor on the back end.
That bump also speaks to how much Morrissey’s game has grown. He’s become the go-to guy in all situations: quarterbacking the power play, logging huge minutes against top competition, and bringing leadership in the locker room. EA Sports ratings don’t always tell the whole story, but getting that 90 overall tag is a good indicator of how his play is viewed league-wide.
As more ratings continue to roll out over the next little bit, it’ll be interesting to see where other Jets players land. Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, and Connor Hellebuyck are all likely to be in the mix for high ratings as well, and those numbers always spark plenty of debate among fans. Maybe Cole Perfetti or Gabriel Vilardi even sneak into a ratings boost after solid seasons.
One thing’s for sure—Jets fans will have plenty to talk about as the ratings keep dropping. But for now, Winnipeg has one of its leaders rightfully recognized in the top-10 at his position—something Morrissey has worked years to achieve, and something that makes firing up NHL 26 a little more fun for Jets fans.
