The Winnipeg Jets are now exactly Luke Schenn (5) days away from opening their 2026-27 NHL regular season at Canada Life Centre against the Boston Bruins. The Jets are also exactly 28 days away from hosting the Montreal Canadiens at Princess Auto Stadium for the 2026 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic. The long days of the NHL off-season are officially over, as we’ll see regular season hockey around the NHL starting on Tuesday.

On Friday night the Winnipeg Jets concluded their pre-season with a 5-2 loss in Colorado against the Avalanche. Nino Niederreiter and Vladislav Namestnikov were the goal scorers, and Stuart Skinner made 28 saves on 32 shots. The Jets finished this new shortened training camp with a 1-2-1 record, and they’ll now have some time to prepare for their regular season and home opener on October 2nd against the Boston Bruins.

The injury report for the Winnipeg Jets (including players who were on the team during training camp) now has just two names: Garrett Brown and Elias Salomonsson. The Jets continue to have one name on their suspended list (Connor Hellebuyck), and at this point it’s clear that it could still take some time before his trade request is fulfilled, so he’ll remain suspended until the trade is confirmed. Salomonsson is now slightly ahead of his recovery schedule (from his off-season shoulder surgery), and he could now be ready to return to the Jets lineup by mid-October rather than late October.

There’s still just over a day before the Jets 2026-27 opening night 23 man roster must be submitted to the NHL, but above is a glimpse at what the Jets opening night lines could look like against the Bruins. The Jets experimented with a few different line combinations in the pre-season, including Cole Perfetti on the top line with Connor and Scheifele. Isak Rosen got an opportunity on the 2nd line with Bjork (who seems to have made the team to start the season) and Brad Lambert, but it’s likely that Rosen will start the season on the 4th line.

The top 4 defencemen remained unchanged, and the only question mark was who would play alongside Mario Ferraro on the 3rd pairing until Elias Salomonsson returns. That spot appears to be have won by Jack St. Ivany, (with Haydn Fleury the likely 7th defencemen) but we’ll have to wait to find out for sure. Stuart Skinner is now confirmed to be the Jets starting goalie to start the season (since a Hellebuyck trade is still pending), and it appears that Domenic DiVincentiis has won the backup job over Thomas Milic, who was loaned to the Manitoba Moose on Friday.

The Jets placed four players on waivers on Friday: Isaak Phillips, Nikita Chibrikov, Parker Ford, and Noah Gregor, all of which cleared waivers and will start the season with the Manitoba Moose. After an off day yesterday, the Jets had a practice this morning, and they continued to make moves ahead of the deadline to submit their opening night roster. Henry Thrun and Danny Zhilkin were placed on waivers this afternoon, and they’ll both likely clear waivers and begin the season with the Moose. All of these players will be a welcome boost to the Moose, who will have plenty of players that will be available to be called up to the Jets if and when injuries occur throughout the season.

That’s all of the Jets rosters news as of Sunday afternoon, and the final moves will be announced tomorrow ahead of the deadline to submit their 23 man roster. Jets fans will continue to wonder when Connor Hellebuyck will be traded, but that looming decision will be set aside once the season gets rolling and the focus shifts to the performance of the 2026-27 Jets.
