The Winnipeg Jets extended their required qualifying offers to eight skaters today, with one skater not being given a qualifying offer.
The Jets offering these qualifying offers means that these eight players will keep their status as restricted free agents for the free agency period, while the one not extended will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
At forward Brandon Tanev, Joel Armia, JC Lipon, Adam Lowry, and Mark Scheifele were extended qualifying offers. On defense Ben Chiarot, Brenden Kichton, and Julian Melchiori were given their qualifying offers.
For the most part, these players will likely be signing short-term contracts with Average Annual Values not dissimilar to the value of their qualifying offer. The exceptions will be the larger names like Scheifele and Trouba who will likely be given bridge contracts or long term contracts worth much more than their qualifying offer. Adam Lowry, who has gained a large amount of NHL experience will likely fall somewhere in between.
Austen Brassard was the lone Jet RFA to not be extended a qualifying offer and so will fall to free agency.
Qualifying Offers:
Adam Lowry – $874,125
Brandon Tanev – $874,125
Jacob Trouba – $874,125
Joel Armia – $874,125
Mark Scheifele – $874,125
Brenden Kichton – $660,000
JC Lipon – $660,000
Julian Melchiori – $660,000
