Winnipeg Jets goaltender Eric Comrie has been invited to compete in the Manitoba Open, an official PGA Tour Americas Fortinet Cup event.
Comrie received a sponsor’s exemption and will participate as an amateur, teeing it up alongside professionals. The tournament runs from Aug. 21–24 at Breezy Bend Country Club, just outside Winnipeg.
“I’m very excited to play in this year’s Manitoba Open. Golf has become such a passion of mine in recent years, and the opportunity to play with professionals who are on the verge of becoming tomorrow’s stars is a special opportunity,” Comrie said in a statement.
It has become a tradition for the Jets to send a player to the Manitoba Open, with Mark Scheifele competing in 2018 and 2022, Kyle Connor in 2019, and Morgan Barron in 2023.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of competing in such an important event to the community of Winnipeg and Manitoba,” Comrie added.
The partnership between the Manitoba Open and the Winnipeg Jets/True North Sports & Entertainment began in 2013, following the PGA Tour’s acquisition and rebranding of the Canadian Tour into PGA Tour Canada.
American Johnny Keefer won the 2024 event, while last year’s Jets invitee, Dylan Samberg, missed the cut after finishing at +10.
Net proceeds from the tournament will once again benefit the True North Youth Foundation’s Project 11 Mental Wellness Program and help introduce golf to children at Camp Manitou. Since 2010, the Manitoba Open has raised nearly $1 million for local charities, with roughly one-third of that total donated through TNYF.
Comrie, born in Edmonton, AB, was drafted 59th overall in the 2013 NHL Draft and is entering his 10th NHL season—his sixth with the Jets.
