On Tuesday, September 11th, Winnipeg Jets captain Adam Lowry gave some insight into when fans can expect him back in the lineup.
Ken Wiebe reported that “Lowry says his recovery is progressing nicely and that his target return to game action is late October or early November.”
Lowry has been skating independently on a regular basis at hockey for all centre, which is an encouraging sign as he continues to work toward a return.
Wiebe also asked Lowry about his contract status, with negotiations for an extension still ongoing. Lowry reassured fans, saying, “I don’t have any concerns on where we’re at. I love playing in Winnipeg and I don’t see an issue with us getting something done.”
Lowry is entering the final season of a five-year deal worth an AAV $3.25M.
Following the Jets’ elimination from the Stanley Cup Playoffs this past May, Lowry underwent successful hip surgery. The original timeline for recovery was five to six months, but it now appears he may be able to return a little earlier than expected.
With the Jets’ third-line centre out to start the season, the question remains: who will step into that role until Lowry returns?
I believe Morgan Barron or Vladislav Namestnikov are the most likely options, depending on whether Jonathan Toews takes the second-line centre spot on opening night. The preseason will provide a clearer picture of the Jets’ centre depth chart, especially since so much depends on how Toews is feeling and how he performs.
Jets training camp is fast approaching, and so is the preseason, just 10 days away. Stay tuned to Jetsnation.ca for all the latest updates on training camp and preseason action!
